The College of Health Sciences’ Physician Assistant Program invites applicants for a Full-time, 12-month Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Physician Assistant Program position. The position begins in July 2026.

The mission of the College of Health Sciences, home of the Physician Assistant Program, is to prepare and inspire health leaders, professionals, and consumers through collaborative and innovative approaches to education, research, and community service. The Physician Assistant Program prepares students for careers in the physician assistant fields. The program is one of the five NATA approved programs at WCU. The faculty members serve both as instructors in the classroom and in the training setting.
The faculty member is primarily be in a didactic position and will also support the clinical team. The candidate will be actively involved in the on-going evaluation of WCU’s Physician Assistant program. This multifaceted position also includes coordinating the remediation and support for successful acquisition of program competencies for all students in the PA program. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate strong attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department’s students. Their experience, substantive specialization, and training will serve to strengthen the department's mission and vision. The faculty will collaborate with other departmental and college faculty & staff to ensure student success. The incumbent may have to travel to clinical sites.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach and provide specialized training and coursework in the Physician Assistant Program. Workload will be assigned based on experience and expertise depending on department needs.
- Develop, review, and revise the mission statement, goals, and competencies for the program
- Design, coordinate, and evaluate the curriculum and program performance
- Select applicants for admission to the PA program
- Provide student academic counseling and remedial instruction
- Participate in the assessment & evaluation of student learning and performance
- Actively participate in the accreditation process
- Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications
- Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program or closely related field
- At least 2 years of clinical experience as a physician assistant
- Current NCCPA certification
- Current Physician Assistant Pennsylvania licensure or eligibility for license
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing & verbally, and present dynamically to a variety of constituents
- Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical experience in primary care, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or general pediatrics; and/or
- At least 1 year of teaching, precepting, and/or clinical coordination experience; and/or
- Strong working knowledge of ARC-PA standards; and/or
- Experience working with diverse populations or underserved communities; and/or
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Active program of research and scholarship
