DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports Fort Indiantown Gap by controlling insects, animals, and vegetation that may pose risks to the installation. The work ensures a clean, safe, and healthy environment for personnel and visitors. As a Vector Control Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Inspections: Conduct on-site reviews to locate pest breeding areas and apply proper treatments
  • Pest Control: Install traps, apply pesticides, and use equipment to control or eliminate pest populations
  • Sanitation Checks: Examine waste areas and drainage systems to prevent conditions that attract pests
  • Vector Collection: Capture and identify insects and animals that may carry diseases
  • Equipment Care: Operate and maintain tools and machinery used for pest and weed control
  • Herbicide Use: Apply herbicides in locations where non-chemical control is not practical

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a current certificate for Pesticide Applications as issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for, industrial, institutional, structural and public health related pest control; or the ability to obtain this certificate within six months of the date of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a current driver's license which is not under suspension
  • You must pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
